WINDING down from Kloof road into Roundhouse road is the culinary venture, Salsify at The Roundhouse partnership by Luke Dale Roberts and Ryan Cole (former head chef at The Test Kitchen). Salsify at The Roundhouse is perched high above the Camps Bay coastline, offering sensational views of the Atlantic Ocean below and the 12 Apostles to the left.
Building on his background of modern classical cooking, Ryan will be offering a special lunch menu showcasing his favourite micro seasonal produce. Guests will indulge in a distinctive and sumptuous four-course meal featuring ingredients such as Jerusalem artichokes, wild foraged mushrooms, and of course, the namesake ingredient salsify. Added to this, a tableside wine service will form part of the experience- a true return to yesteryear indulgence.
Within the walls of The Roundhouse, a heritage building that has assumed many faces over its storied past, guests pass through the central chamber that hosts the muse 1.3m Lady Salsify statue into a luxurious lounge and absorb the contemporary, historically-inspired artworks that fill the interior.
The first dining room, aptly named the “Leather Lounge’, exudes a feeling of comfort and opulence, with floor to ceiling leather-clad panels and an inviting fireplace.
The second dining room, the ‘Sea Room’, boasts spectacular vistas and is where the distinguished legacy of the space is complemented with touches of modern furnishings and crisp white napery that blends seamlessly to evoke a feeling of old world charm.
The Lunch begins with a choice between a complimentary glass of Methôde Cap Classique or an expertly mixed non-alcoholic cocktail. The lunch menu will take full advantage of the micro seasons that Cape Town enjoys with choices for 3 out of the 4 courses. To complete the unforgettable experience, Nash, the resident sommelier, provides a tableside service and expert advice on wine pairings, with old vintages and edgy choices available to the more daring palates. Coravins, an ingenuous device that allows per glass servings without ever removing the cork, will be employed to ensure every glass poured presents as if from a newly opened bottle.
The opulent culinary journey, combined with The Roundhouse’s beautiful location and history, ensures that lunch at Salsify at The Roundhouse is a delightful and unmissable dining experience.
