Introducing a Sumptuous Sip of Sunshine and Award-Winning Wines for Summer Sipping Discover the taste of sunshine this summer with FAT bastard Chenin Blanc, the latest member of the popular FAT bastard POD. A larger POD means you’ve got more ‘LARGE-LIVING’ to do this summer, wallowing in the many charms of the well-loved, rich and round, food-friendly range of award-winning FAT bastard wines. “Much like a glass of FAT bastard wine, life should be filled to the brim and enjoyed in large, delicious gulps”. This is the voice of Mr. b. He’s gold, he’s grand and he lives life at the big end of large! He’s the ‘grand-daddy’ of FAT bastard wines, loving them with great gusto. Introducing FAT bastard CHENIN BLANC 2018, A Sumptuous Sip of Sunshine This gorgeous Chenin Blanc was blended from a selection of the best wine from the year’s ripe harvest. From the start, the aim was to produce a Chenin Blanc with intense fruit flavours and complex character utilising quality grapes. All the fruit was harvested in the early hours and the juice pressed while the grapes were still cool to help retain aroma and flavour. As lively as a golden ray of sunshine, it all comes together in that very first sip: Juicy yellow peach and a hint of vanilla dance across the palate and the wine lingers with a tangy note of fresh lime on the finish. A sumptuous sip of sunshine indeed, and delicious with a glazed ham, smoked salmon or a Cape Malay-style prawn curry. The FAT bastard Chenin Blanc 2018 is widely available nationally and retails between R85 and R95. WALLOW IN JOY THIS SUMMER WITH AWARD-WINNING FAT bastard WINES The fruit-driven members of the Fat bastard POD have wallowed in success this year, revelling in a series of prestigious accolades from a variety of competitions: Winemag.co.za’s Inaugural Best Value Chardonnay Tasting: The FAT bastard Chardonnay 2018, which top scored with 90 points, is bold and well-rounded, seducing with ripe stone fruit and tropical melon enhanced by vanilla cream and rich buttery notes. Serve well chilled. Gorgeous on its own but also pairs beautifully with grilled salmon, roast chicken, roast pork or baked camembert. 2019 Rosé Rocks: The FAT bastard Rosé 2019, awarded Double Gold, entices with a salmon blush, ripe strawberry and watermelon aromas wrapped in floral overtones and a creamy palate filled with fresh summer berries. Deliciously dry and bursting with fruit, drink well-chilled on its own or enjoy with seared salmon or smoked trout. 2019 Gold Wine Awards: Three members of the FAT bastard POD were honoured with Gold medals for affordable excellence: FAT bastard Merlot 2017: Well-rounded with upfront fruit, juicy blackberries, cherries and plums abound supported by well-integrated smooth tannins and a long juicy finish. Enjoy with a Christmas turkey with cranberry sauce or beef bourguignon or charcuterie. FAT bastard Cabernet Sauvignon 2017: Intense aromas of blackcurrants and brambly wild fruit lead to rich flavours of cassis and chocolate with lovely vanilla spice notes supported by fine smooth tannins and an elegant finish. Delicious with a rib-eye steak, barbecued ribs, lamb chops, a cheeseboard especially hard and blue cheese or a tray of chocolate truffles. FAT bastard The Golden Reserve (Bordeaux-Style Red Blend) 2018: Ripe-flavoured, rich and full and silky textured, luxurious aromas and flavours of dark berry fruit and plums enchant the senses. Savour with a butterflied leg of lamb with rosemary or rib-eye steak or exotic mushroom pasta. THE FAT bastard STORY FAT bastard wines have always been delicious and well-loved, since they were created, almost by accident by Thierry and Guy. When tasting an experimental batch of Chardonnay at the back of the cellar, that had been kept in barrel with yeast sediment longer than usual and had developed a very full-bodied taste, Guy exclaimed in delight amongst a bellyful of laughter, "Well, now that's a FAT bastard," perfectly describing the wine’s wonderful colour and round, rich palate. This tradition of creating full-bodied wines to be enjoyed with bellyfuls of laughs continues today. FAT bastard Range of Wines: The name might be fun, but the wine is serious. This full-bodied range of nine wines, with a fascinating story behind its name, includes a Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Chenin Blanc, Rosé, Shiraz, Pinotage, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and The Golden Reserve (Bordeaux-style red blend) The FAT bastard wines are widely available nationally and retail between R85 and R95 (white wines) and between R110 and R120 (red wines).
