Welcome to Middelvlei, a charming estate situated in Stellenbosch overlooking the Bottelary Hills and the upper reaches of Devon Valley. Home of the Momberg family, who have been wine farmers there since 1919.
Middelvlei has a serious fun factor! For Kids they have an array of different miniature animals, (my personal favorite was little wallaby), play area, marshmallow toasting and grape juice tasting and for the adults, how about playing with your wine with their blending experience
This is definitely a great family estate, with something for anyone to enjoy and was voted Top 10 family-friendly wine farms by FOOD24.
Their newly renovated space is alive with rustic charm, modern fresh appeal, cozy nooks with warm sparkling fire (in winter) and surrounded by lush country fields perfect for summer days relaxing on the lawn with a glass of their fine wine.
Whats on the menu at Middelvlei? Local traditional Afrikaans food cooked on flames made with flare by their resident braai expert who will prepare your chops, boerewors and chicken sosaties to perfection. As if the appetising aromas of potbrood and braaibroodjies are not enough, Ben's homemade pâté and Ouma Annie's pumpkin fritters are devilishly delicious and paired well with fantastic South African hospitality.
They offer a fantastic two food and wine pairings:
Braai broodjies (grilled cheese sandwiches cooked on flames) paired with wine Unoaked Chardonnay paired with snoek & cream cheese braaibroodjie. Fun-Run Pinotage paired with boerewors & mozzarella braaibroodjie. Shiraz paired with creamy Brie & sundried fig braaibroodjie.
Traditional tapas paired with wine
Mini Potbrood and Snoek pâté with Middelvlei Chardonnay, Biltong and Mozzarella Braaibroodjie with Middelvlei Rooster Merlot, Cocktail Boerewors Sosatie with Middelvlei Pinotage.
My proudly South African taste buds were in paradise!
I’d would love to share with you this local gem favorite, so join me for a tjop en dop op die plaas stoep.
