Elgin wines are characterised by an explosion of flavours: beautiful fruit purity,
poise and complexity.
Elgin Grabouw Tourism is delighted to announce the Elgin Cool Wine &
Country Festival will take place on Friday 1 st and Saturday 2nd May 2020, and
that Nedbank is proud sponsor of the popular annual event.
Just 70km from Cape Town, the Elgin Valley is home to award-winning
wineries who are pulling out all the stops to offer two wine-packed days that
showcase why Elgin has become renowned as the home of South African
cool climate wines. Visit each of the participating wine farms to taste their
exceptional wines and enjoy exclusive festival opportunities such as guided
tastings with winemakers, big bottle tastings and cellar tours.
Feast on a variety of delicious fare at each farm, including crêpes, picnics,
oysters, pizzas, afternoon teas, tapas and gourmet food truck offerings.
To work up an appetite there will be all sorts of fun activities including boules,
barrel-rolling, a maze and a fresh farm produce & gift fair, with live bands, DJs
and a Marimba band providing yet more atmosphere.
The Elgin Railway Market is the place to head to on the evening of Saturday
2nd May for the “After Party”. The market’s vendors will be open along with live
music and a charity auction.
Our valley is family-friendly and festival activities for children include jumping
castles, jungle gyms, swimming, pony rides, scavenger hunts, games, bicycle
rides (bring your own bikes), a treasure hunt, and chocolate pizza making in
aid of Grabouw Animal Welfare.
Bring your four-legged pals too – friendly dogs are welcome at a number of
participating farms (please bring a leash).
Helmien Havenga, Nedbank Business Banking’s area manager for the
Worcester Overberg area says that this sponsorship reinforces the bank’s
commitment to the South African agricultural sector and the wine industry in
particular. “As the proud sponsors of the Cape Winemaker’s Guild and
Nedbank Wine on the River we are delighted to add this exciting festival to
our sponsorships in the wine industry. With offices in Grabouw, we are able to
offer Nedbank’s banking solutions to the winemaking industry in this area, and
our sponsorship of this festival gives us a great opportunity to connect on a
personal level with the community.”
Tickets are on sale via Quicket https://qkt.io/SGEzE2– a two-day pass is just
R230 and a one-day pass is R180. “After Party” tickets are R150 per person -

Elgin Grabouw Tourism supports responsible drinking and in partnership with
Appletiser, will be running a campaign which includes a complementary
shuttle service that will cover various routes stopping at participating wine
farms during the festival, as well as rewarding Designated Drivers a free
Appletiser at each of the participating wine farms.
With so much to enjoy, we’d encourage festival visitors to make the most of
the Elgin Valley by booking accommodation. From cosy farm cottages to
